in the 2010 movie inception written and directed by christopher nolan most of the action takes place in dreams or dreams within dreams. sometimes either we or the characters can’t tell whether what we are seeing is “real” or a dream. in the inception reality it is possible to create and design dreams that seem like real life in order to fool someone into believing that they’ve had an experience. sometimes the world surrounding the designed dream starts to decompensate and intrude. this is how you know that the time for the dream is running out. you can really tell a dream is breaking down when there are riots or pandemics. inside the house reality seems real. outside the chaos is getting closer.
physicists tell us that at the level of the quantum field, the ground of all being, all is energy and light. in the quantum field the exact same particle can be multiple places behaving differently at the exact same time. because of this quantum reality, mathematicians calculate that in all probability there are multiverses—other versions of this universe/timeline happening simultaneously. recently a government probe claimed to find physical evidence of a parallel universe—i have exactly no idea how that can be.
what is required to move from one timeline to another is a change of consciousness. in many ways, this is an exact corollary to waking up. in this timeline/universe on earth we have been for a long time stuck in a paradigm of force (what some would call masculine energy). systemic racism, sexism and entwined economic exploitation (of the poor and of animals and the earth’s resources) are the most obvious mechanisms of force being employed across many earth cultures.
what we are seeing now with pandemic chaos across the world combined with militarized suppression of protests in the united states represents the possibility of a last gasp of the use of force and control as the way to be in the world. the current us president is the face of this way of being, but he did not create it. it created him.
the master teacher of nazareth tells us that love is a power greater than the mind or domination through human structures. within human structures and constructs one must be wary of being trapped in polarities by pushing against something. but this master teacher tells us that love is more powerful than any structural polarity. it rises above and transforms all. and the only thing love requires of us so that it may do its job is to choose to be it.
as hundreds of thousands take their face masks to the street to peaceably protest the minneapolis police murder of george floyd, and hundreds of thousands more contribute support through money, social media and prayer, we are choosing to be love today. we are collectively saying we have had enough of the old ways. we no longer will tolerate white supremacy and violent force baked into our communities through police and other structures.
studies of police officers found that while most officers had as their job title “peace officer,” they chose to identify themselves as “law enforcement officers.” there is a world of difference. a peace officer’s sworn duty is to keep the peace not to enforce the law. it is the use of force that is the old structure that wants to die.
in so doing we are waking up from this nightmare, this timeline of force, and we are choosing a different timeline, one in which love has been chosen by the cosmic democracy. the dream is decompensating. blessed be.
