we’ve waited long enough
Isaiah 9:6: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Matthew 25:40 “Whatever you do to the least of these, you do to me…”
As we revisit this massive Christian/American holiday every year, how often do we contrast the promise of Christ’s coming with the reality of the world?
Isaiah 9:6 above is from the Jewish part of the Bible, prophesying that a child would be born to bring peace and to carry the government on His shoulders.
Would that it were so…
It’s hard to see that promise true today as the United States federal government implements another manufactured war against a coincidentally oil-laden under-armed country.
Matthew 25:40 “Whatever you do to the least of these, you do to me…” comes from the Christian part of the Bible, attributed to Jesus the Christ Himself. While today, people invoke Christ’s name to justify:
- Arresting and detaining nonwhite residents of this country, only to hold them in subhuman conditions.
- Rounding up and “reprogramming” possibly through surgery, trans and queer people
- Mass firings of public servants
- Withholding foreign aid from starving or war-torn people
- Continued arming of Israel in its obvious goal to annihilate the Palestinian people
- And I could continue…
Where are you, Jesus? We need your peace. We need your light. We need your hope this year. Or, at the very least, I do.
I love thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky and stay by my side, till morning is nigh…. Away in a Manger
Tool: Meditate for Peace
Sunday, December 21, 2025, was United Nations Worldwide Meditation Day. On it, millions gathered online to meditate with Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who has helped achieve peace treaties around the world through meditation and understanding.
I have done this 24-minute meditation every day since December 21. It flies by and leaves me with a sense of peace and joy, and what else is possible. The meditation starts 21 minutes in so that’s where this link below takes you.
Reflection Questions
- Where am I expecting Jesus (or a new President or “savior”) to save me instead of my own Christ consciousness?
- What if meditation really can change the planet/country/me?
- Where else is there evidence that we are already “saved”?
