We live in a world of choices. Every week, and most days, we make routine, periodic and profound choices. That’s going to happen anyway. The question is, how do we make these choices? Are we just choosing what our friends and family or our social media feed thinks we should choose? Or are we also choosing consciously through spiritual or intuitive discernment? Using discernment to make choices is the wizard way to travel on earth. Eventually (in this life or the next) we will get wherever we’re headed. When we make conscious choices using discernment tools we zip there with more clarity, focus, ease and grace than we would otherwise.
I have worked with different tools and practices for discernment such as muscle testing, two-way writing, detecting what’s light rather than what’s right, following coincidence, as well as the spiritual hit parade of meditation and prayer. I apply these practices to
daily, periodic and profound choices.
Daily/routine choices include:
- What and where do you eat for each meal?
- When do you workout and why?
- How do you organize your time?
Periodic choices include:
- Do you take this cool sounding class?
- Do you make this volunteer service commitment?
- Where do you take your vacation?
- How do you address your low salary?
Profound choices may include:
- Do you take this relationship to the next level?
- Do you buy a home, if so, which home?
- Do you desire to raise children?
- Do you attend grad school?
- What region do you want to live in?
- What is yours to contribute to a world that works for everyone?
Know that you are not alone in making any of these choices. Whether you call it spirit, the sun, the moon, dogs or dolphins, there is a divine intelligence that is living out its perfect life as everything in the known and the unknown world. That includes you. You are a spiritual being having a spiritual experience in a human body on a human plane.
As a human container of spirit that is part of the vast universe of spirit, you have access to all divine intelligence. Quantum physicists tell us that that intelligence is beyond time and space. So when you discern you receive information that you absolutely can’t otherwise access. Discernment brings with it the ability to know what decisions are right (or, as I prefer to say “light”) for you, in alignment with your highest good and the good of the world we live in.
Let’s try this:
What upcoming choice is looming right now? Let’s say it’s whether to go away with some friends for an upcoming weekend, or to stay at home and improve your home or garden. Here’s one tool to try. Picture a candle flame burning bright. I usually hold that picture in my chest, but it really doesn’t matter where you hold it, or whether it’s a real “picture” or more of a feeling. Either way, dial into it.
Now, with that candle flame burning bright, bring to mind aspects of going out of town with your friends for that upcoming weekend. Where might you be sleeping? What might you be doing? What views might you have? With that in mind, what happens to the candle flame? Does it continue to burn brightly? Or does it flicker? Does it blow out completely? Perhaps make a note of it.
Okay, now turn your attention to the other option, staying at home and tending your garden. Let the candle return to bright burning in your mind’s eye and picture staying home for the weekend. See or feel yourself pulling weeds in the yard. See or feel yourself having a cup of tea by yourself on a break. Whatever you associate with this choice, bring it to mind. Now return to the candle flame. What happens to it when you choose to stay home? How does it compare with what happened to the flame when you chose to go away with friends? Which choice seems to allow your own internal flame to burn more brightly?
So that’s just one tool for you to play with at home. Once you know which choice stokes your flame, you have more information by which to choose. For better or worse, we always have a choice. We don’t have to choose the option that seems to be leading us, we can do whatever we want. When I disregard the guided choice that I received, I make a note of what actually happens when I take the other path. How does it feel? Any regrets?
Great work exploring your own intuition. You are becoming a spiritual scientist, paying more attention to what information may be available for you to receive and make guided choices.
