it appears that we have reached to a tipping point in this country where a majority of americans no longer believe we should tolerate systemic racism. maybe a better way to put that is its come to white america’s attention that there is systemic racism. i pray that that is so.
yet congressmember yoho’s recent attack on congressmember ocasio-cortez on the steps of the us capitol and the floor of the house of representatives shows that we have yet to reach that that point with gender. somehow physical and verbal violence against women from our most powerful men is still tolerated and rewarded.
for this reason, among others, ocasio-cortez’s measured, dignified response on the house floor this week bears watching. for decades men have used the fact of having wives and daughters (much as people point to their black friends or colleagues) as a shield to protect themselves from allegations of sexism. ocasio-cortez calls out yoho for doing the same and calls us all to higher version of ourselves where we do not tolerate this behavior

yes, sara, time is up and it is unacceptable in America (or anywhere) to belittle, dehumanize, verbally abuse anyone for any reason. this level of violence has to stop, now.
Sara S. Nichols says
absolutely, Colonel Z!
