string theory or quantum math or something calculates a high probability that there are parallel universes in which there exists a different version of the current reality. i understand this a little from studying quantum physics which tells us that literally the exact same particle (not a copy) can be in multiple places at the exact same time—what?!   i know. but that’s what they tell me. so i choose a parallel universe in which we already have medicare for all. let’s see how that might look.
beep beep beep. you now are in an alternate universe where the united states of america long passed medicare for all, maybe back when fdr, truman, eisenhower or lbj tried to push it.  somehow trump still got elected in this universe but medicare for all remains. here’s how it shakes out here:
- everyone who lost their job in the pandemic still has health care coverage because coverage is not tied to employment
- prior to the pandemic, people were seeing the doctor whenever they needed to without copays deductibles or other out of pocket expenses. as a result, the population is healthier and less likely to seek extreme medical care during the pandemic for other reasons.
- the full health care system is actually a system whereby all health professionals can and do get accurate information and protective gear in a timely fashion.
- this assumes that the federal government run by trump hasn’t diverted resources from the system, which it probably has.
- people who have troubling symptoms aren’t deterred from being checked out by their physicians through fear of high out of pocket expenses.
- there are no uninsured people
- rich and poor are in the same system so rich people demand high quality systems and care.
