This piece is part 1 of a series called forgiveness in the pandemic where i’ll share with you my favorite forgiveness practices and thoughts about forgiveness. as dr. georgia prescott of the center for spiritual awareness in west sacramento says something like this, if you want something to change in your life, don’t come to me about it unless you’re ready to do some forgiveness.
by now many of you have heard of ho’oponopono, the ancient hawaiian forgiveness practice but are you ever using it? the previous link gives you some of the backstory on the practice including the often repeated amazing story of dr. ihaleakala hew len who sat in a room for 4 years looking at pictures and files of the residents of a facility “for the criminally insane” chanting some variation (people do say the phrases in different orders, i’ve found) of “i’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you, i love you.” it is said that this healed himself and thus healed all the people within the facility.
i myself love this HO’OPONOPONO MANTRA – 108 Repetitions for Deep Healing 13 minute meditation with sandra rolus on the youtube where she chants it 108 times (a sacred number in yoga and hinduism). some days i chant it with her. some days i just let it wash over me. some days i start it with the idea that the forgiveness is for a particular person or situation. some days i know it is just for me. whatever way I start, i can totally feel that it is for me.
although i have done ho’oponopono in the pandemic i have not been using it to address the pandemic, i have just been doing it to heal upsets that i’ve been having with other situations that are coming up “coincidentally” (if that’s possible) now. but if anybody reading this is angry at any level of the government or the disease or any person in your life who seems to be behaving differently than you want them to in this time for any reason, i would give this meditation practice a try. just put it on, bring up the feeling, put your hand over your heart and either chant or not but let these healing words work their magic. like anything else, the more you do it, the more magical the result will be.
