today white people are falling all over ourselves to wish each other a happy juneteenth and i’m one of them. it occurs to me that part of the story of juneteenth seems to be that word of freedom from bondage took a long time to arrive. it took months from the time of actual declaration of emancipation to reach the ears of enslaved people in texas and it has taken decades for the news to reach mainstream white people in america and the world. below enjoy my beloved colleague rev. dereca blackmon’s talk on juneteenth, entitled “you are already free.”
this ludicrous quote to the right being mocked by the president’s detractors today. i actually think there’s a way that for once this man is speaking the truth–this is actually a microcosm of his real legacy. by scheduling a huge (public health threatening) narcissistic campaign rally on juneteenth (wittingly or unwittingly), he drew attention to an important event in history that millions of people in america (presumably almost all not african american) had never heard of or acknowledged. as improbable as it seems, juneteenth has now been elevated closer to its proper place in american history and consciousness as a result of dt and his follower’s ignorance and arrogance. this is a microcosm of the legacy in consciousness that he is awakening in us.
in love without end: jesus speaks… by glenda green, she quotes the master teacher of nazarene (who appeared before her for months in embodied form in the late 90’s to sit for a portrait) as saying “consummate evil is the intent or action of turning love against itself…the greatest protection you have is to simply be the love that you are.” the master teacher goes on to say, “you might even consider the possibility that those beings who have denied god and love have made the ultimate sacrifice to prove that such freedom does exist. from a certain viewpoint this might even be viewed as a courageous act of love. for how can a being of love ever be anything else? a thorough perception of that might end your dualistic thinking forever. there is no division of spirit.” pp. 146-147
by being the personification of hatred, racism, sexism, xenophobia, violence and incompetence in the world donald trump has invited all of us to be love on the planet. dt does not do this consciously of course, but he is helping the rest of us to become conscious.
