this is part of a multi-part series on discernment. what are my ways of discerning what some traditions would call “god’s will” and what others might call in alignment with highest good for me or what deepak chopra calls communication from our nonlocal intelligence? i will use the terms “god’s will,” “highest good” “nonlocal communication” interchangeably throughout the series so look alive. click through the first post (how do i discern what is alignment with my highest good and why might i want to) to see what lies ahead or what i’ve already brought forth.
is it possible to talk about god’s will without agreeing on a definition of god? it is hard for me to think of god as having a “will” because i do not believe in a puppet master in the sky that is pulling strings and has a specific idea in mind for me. because i know god to be the all in all, the ground of all being, all powerful, all knowing and all present, that means its impossible to be outside of god. which means that god is living out its perfect life as everything including me. so in that way it seems impossible for god to have a will that is different from mine.
indeed, i have heard ministers in my tradition say “god’s will is my will.” because of what i believe, i’m not going to pronounce them wrong, but i do see it and talk about it a little differently than that. it has been said that god is all of me, but i am not all of god. an example often given is that if i dip a cup into the ocean, that cup is filled with nothing but ocean but it is not all of the ocean.
god’s will for me, then, is using my connection with the all in all to access awareness and information that is beyond time, beyond space, beyond body but is available in, as and through me. when i do that, using any one of the techniques i’m exploring in this series or something else, i now may begin to feel into what is the most expansive, lightest, loving choice for me. and if i choose that, it may make my way sweeter, easier and more abundant. that information is what i am choosing to call god’s will for me. another way to put it might be “god’s way for me,” meaning a powerful path that has been shown to me.
i remain free to choose another path, but i have found that when i choose this path, my life’s purpose is brought forth more powerfully.
how does it get even better than this? what else is possible?
